City Programming at Friendship “Turtle” Park

The District Department of Parks and Recreation offers low and no cost classes for children and adults at Friendship Recreation Center and Friendship “Turtle” Park. Friends of Friendship Park periodically polls the community about what courses they want at the park and then lobbies DPR to obtain those courses. We are still in the process of helping DPR ramp-up the programming offered at Turtle Park following our closure and renovation. You should check DPR’s registration system for the most up to date course offerings, but below is a sampling of classes offered in the past.

Past DPR classes (that may still be available):

Little Explorers Summer Camp Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
Cooperative Play preschool Monday-Friday, 9am-noon
Tiny Tots Recreation Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 11am-12:30pm
Tiny Tots Soccer Tuesday, Thursday, 4-5pm
Yoga for adults: Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30pm
Zumba for adults: Thursdays, 6:30-7:30pm

Instructions for using DPR’s Registration System

Unfortunately, there is no way to link you directly just to DPR’s Friendship “Turtle” Park programming. Plus, DPR’s registration system is cumbersome. Therefore, here are instructions for finding programming available at Friendship “Turtle” Park:

  • Go to DPR’s registration system.
  • Choose a category: Camps/Co-Ops, Family, Kids, Teens, Adults or Seniors.
  • Skip down to “Location” and scroll to “Friendship Recreation Center. (Note: NOT Friendship Garden.) Click on it.
  • Scroll down and click the Search button. (It is a bit hard to find. You will see it beneath Additional Search Criteria.)
  • If you see something you are interested in, create an account, sign up and enjoy!
Independent Programming at Friendship “Turtle” Park

Friends of Friendship Park has a longterm goal of helping to coordinate additional classes and activities at the park beyond what DPR offers. This has worked beautifully at other parks and recreation centers in the District. Our vision is that we will help independent contractors work with the city to obtain needed permits and time slots. From tennis to pilates to sewing, we can envision additional, vibrant offerings at our park. Interested in teaching a class? Contact President@TurtlePark.org.

Baseball and Softball at Friendship “Turtle” Park

Already, Turtle Park is a hotbed of independent baseball activity. Northwest Little League is based at the park and actually maintains our beautiful baseball diamonds. Home Run Baseball takes over during summer days with camps from June through August. Interested in these activities? Check out their websites below.
