WHAT IS FRIENDS OF FRIENDSHIP PARK?
Friends of Friendship Park (commonly referred to as “FOFP”) is a non‐profit organization incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia (DC) to assist the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) in the maintenance and improvement of Friendship “Turtle” Park. FOFP is a 501(c)3 organization and as such, all contributions are tax‐deductible.
WHAT DO WE DO?
The mission of FOFP is to assist DPR in the “preservation and maintenance of Turtle Park” which means that FOFP is the liaison between the community and DPR to provide a safe, clean and beautiful park that includes the playground, recreation center, basketball court, tennis courts, and baseball fields. In addition, FOFP makes decisions on what additional programs to offer at Turtle Park to supplement DPR programming that have included Mayfair, The Turtle Park Music Project, Ice Cream Social, Egg Hunt, and Halloween Parade.
WHO ARE WE?
FOFP is run by a Board of Directors that consists of community volunteers who are committed to Turtle Park. FOFP was founded by volunteers in AU Park in 1997 when Turtle Park was at risk for demise. The equipment was in such a state of disrepair it was deemed unsafe. DPR had plans to remove it but not to replace it, so FOFP was formed.
